Child Health and Wellbeing Certificate

Program Description

The Child Health and Wellbeing (CHWB) Micro-credential encompasses a comprehensive curriculum that includes child health, cultural competence, supporting children with differing abilities, guiding behaviors, and trauma-responsive practices for children aged 0-8.

Program Outcomes

After students complete this certificate they will be able to:

  1. Identify appropriate learning environments based on child development in the context of trauma informed and culturally responsive practices.
  2. Identify appropriate strategies to effectively connect, engage, and support families with children who are experiencing developmental delays and/or disabilities.
  3. Develop appropriate assessment in partnership with families to create strength-based approaches in supporting children's social and emotional development.
  4. Select developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate techniques to connect children and families in development and learning.
  5. Identify trauma responsive strategies to design, implement, and evaluate social and emotional development and comprehensive developmental learning outcomes each individual child.
  6. Describe professional behavior reflective of ethical guidelines and professional practices in early childhood education. 

Career Considerations

The Child Health and Wellbeing Micro credential is designed for current and future early childhood care and education professionals who want in-depth knowledge of how to support children’s social-emotional development with an emphasis on supporting children with diverse backgrounds, special needs, and/or children who have experienced traumatic experiences. Students who complete this micro-credential will earn 150 professional development hours that can be applied to the Oregon Registry Steps and knowledge that supports a career in Early Childhood Care and Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Early Intervention, and Home Visiting.
